India Planning, March 2019 The North Trip -- Dharamshala-Amritsar PaLAMpur

Planning daytrip into this area Friday, Mar 29 to 1) visit with Valerie at Gyuto Monastery Tantric Temple and 2) visit Dongyu Datsal Ling Nunnery. But the nunnery is way farther from our base in DharamSHala, and we listen to Jetsumna Mar 27 & 28…

Clélia visited the nunnery and its abbess Jetsumna Tenzin Palmo last summer. See just below.

14 miles as the crow flies.

Interesting material on travel from the Jetsumna page:

Travel from McLeod Ganj / Dharamsala

Most of our visitors will be coming from McLeod Ganj / Dharamsala. Travel by taxi or bus are both possible options for a return day trip.

Taxi: Taxis offer a fixed return price from McLeod Ganj/Dharamsala. Travel time is approximately two hours each direction. Current cost is 2,000 rupees return – taxi drivers are happy to wait during your visit.

Bus: From the main bus station in Kotwali Bazaar, Lower Dharamsala. Travel time is 3 + hours each direction and costs around 200 rupees round trip. There are 2 possibilities:

Direct bus: There are several buses a day from Dharamsala to Baijnath.

Bus change in Palampur: Buses from Dharamsala to Palampur are more frequent. In Palampur, you change to a local bus in the direction of Baijnath.

In either case, tell the bus conductor that you want to get off at Padhiarkhar, which is just before the Alhilal Army Camp (15-20 mins journey time after leaving Palampur).

Gyuto Monastery about here.
